This par 68 course, designed by Tom Bendelow and opened in 1928, is 5,149 yards long and offers magnificent views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. The course is moderately forested with mature cypress and pine trees and native landscaping on rolling and sometimes steep hills. Lincoln Park is also one of the courses used for the annual San Francisco Golf Championships. The prestigious Presidio Golf Course opened for public play in 1995 and has quickly gained a reputation as one of the nation's top public courses. Located just minutes from downtown San Francisco, this 18-hole course plays 6,500 yards of challenging golf winding through beautiful Eucalyptus and Monterey Pine trees in The City's trademark hills.

Designed with tight fairways and strategically placed bunkers, this 18 hole "hilly" golf course offers a unique challenge for golfers of all abilities. Originally designed by Robert Wood Johnstone, the course was expanded in 1910 by Johnstone in collaboration with William McEwan and redesigned and lengthened in by the British firm of Fowler & Simpson in 1921.

Golden Gate Park Golf Course (9 hole)

The San Francisco golf course was originally opened in 1951 as a "Pitch and Putt" course. The par 27 course is 1,357 yards long and offers nine holes of golf with the longest hole being only 193 yards long so it's a great course for beginners or for more accomplished players to hone their games. It's set within one of the country's most magnificent urban park settings. Golden Gate Park Golf course offers summer junior golf camps available to juniors at all levels of play. No tee off time reservations taken. First come first serve.
An ideal facility for travelers because they offer club & equipment rentals at nominal prices so people traveling without their own clubs can still play a round of golf.
They are open seven days a week, 365 days a year!
The course facilities also includes:

Harding Golf Course(18 hole) and Fleming (9 hole)

The course was designed by Willie Watson and opened in 1930. The course is bordered on three sides by Lake Merced, offering several scenic views of the surrounding area. This championship tournament course is on slightly rolling grounds and moderately forested with mature cypress and pine trees. Harding Park is one of the City-owned courses which hosts the annual San Francisco City Golf Championship, one of the oldest running amateur golf events in the country. Harding Park has also played host to numerous professional golf tournaments over its long history.

Sharp Park Golf Course (18 hole)

The Bay Area golf course, opened in 1931, was originally designed by famed architect Alister Mackenzie and landscaped by John McLaren. The par 72 course is 6,299 yards long and offers fabulous views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding areas. This is a walkable inland and seaside course lined with Cypress and Pine trees that wraps around Laguna Salada, a natural lake ringed with reeds, cattails and tulles. Living in the marsh are a variety of birds including mallards, coots and red-winged blackbirds. Gleneagles Golf Course (9 hole)

This challenging par 36 course designed by John Fleming and opened in 1962 is 3,195 yards long and is a hidden jewel with beautiful vistas located in the far southern part of the City. This nine hole course can be played as 18 holes from different tee and pin locations that challenges even the most astute golfer. The course is moderate to heavily forested and located on rolling and sometimes steep hills. Tee time reservations can be made by calling the golf shop.

* Don't let the yardage and ratings fool you. This is not a fun course for the average golfer. If you hook or slice (in the slightest form) you will be getting back to nature. Thread the needle and shoot for greens you can't see! Bring someone with you who knows the course, if you can. The greens are above average speed.

* Although this is a "par 71," the price is the reason we chose this section. This is one of the more difficult courses of the Bay Area. Great course conditions and lovely scenery.

* This is one of those "last resort" courses when everyone else is booked up. The greens are usually in poor shape and you could loose your ball in the middle of the fairway. We can't figure out how they can charge that much to play there!

* One of my close friends thinks that going here and throwing a dozen balls out into the weeds and bending a club, or two, is the same as playing here. We agree it's one of the tougher ones.

Rules for Bay Area Golf Courses

1. All courses will be open 365 days a year.

2. All courses shall be open for play from sunrise to sundown, with the exception of the Harding Park Complex. Harding will open 1⁄2 hour after sunrise and close at sundown.

3. Holiday rates will be charged on the following days or their officially observed days: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day following, and Christmas Day. When a holiday is officially observed on a different day, the holiday rate will be charged for the observed date only.

4. No play is allowed on any golf course or portion thereof which has been closed for any reason by the Golf Program Director or his/her designee.

5. USGA and local rules govern all play.

6. Non-golfers are not allowed on the course at any time. (If a golfer requires special assistance or if a parent must accompany a younger child, pre-approval must be obtained through the pro shop starter.)

7. Each player must have a set of clubs and bags. Sharing equipment is prohibited.

8. All golfers must check in with the pro shop starter prior to teeing off.

9. All golfers with a reserved tee time must check in with the pro shop starter at least 20 minutes prior to their start time.

10. All rounds must begin on the first tee unless otherwise specified by the pro shop starter.

11. All golfers wishing to use a practice area must first check in with pro shop starter as to availability.

12. No warming up or practicing allowed on first tee or any tee surface.

13. No chipping allowed on any practice surface or putting green.

14. No practicing or use of more than one ball is allowed on the course.

15. Groups of more than four persons are not allowed on the course.

16. Pace of play must never be slower than 15 minutes per hole. Golfers unable to keep that pace must let others play through.

17. All golfers must use golf shoes with soft spikes. (Exceptions to this rule will be determined by the Pro Shop Manager.) Tennis or other athletic shoes are an acceptable alternative for golfers 17 years of age and under.

18. Golfers are required to repair their own divots and ball marks and rake traps. Please utilize divot mix where provided.

19. Golfers must have a valid driver’s license available at the time of renting a golf cart. All drivers must drive safely and responsibly.

20. No golf carts are allowed in the parking lot for any reason.

21. All golf carts must stay on cart paths at all times. “90 degree rule” is applicable only with pre-approval from the pro shop starter.

22. Pull carts and golf bags must be left off greens, collars and tees at all times.

23. Unauthorized golf instruction on the course is strictly prohibited.

24. Personal coolers, glass containers and bottles are not allowed on the course at any time.

25. Dogs or other pets are not allowed on the course or in the clubhouse at any time. (Service dogs for the visually impaired are allowed with pre-approval from the pro start starter.)

26. Golfers may be refused playing privileges or may be removed from the course for:

A. Submitting false information for the purpose of securing golfing privileges or discounts.

B. Playing without paying a green fee or for not registering with the starter.

C. Obvious inability to play golf.

D. Failure to comply with existing rules and regulations.

E. Intentionally hitting balls off the course into park areas or private property adjacent to the course.

F. Flagrant violation of rules of etiquette, such as obnoxious behavior, intoxication, damaging of courses or failure to follow course design on a hole-to-hole basis.
