San Francisco Giants

I LOVE baseball! And even more than that I LOVE my
San Francisco Giants!

This season starts off an opener with the San Diego Padres- I'll be there on Wednesday, cheering on my boys. Although we've had some changes this year:Barry Bonds is no longer a Giant. My favorite player, Pedro Feliz, is unfortunately not with us anymore, he signed with the Phillies this year. But I am very happy that we have Barry Zito pitching for us- although I was sad to see Schmidt go to the Dodgers last year! And let's not forget the new rookies that are blazing up the field!

Like every true fan I wear my colors proud (orange & black) and scream my head off at every game I go to! The bleachers are the best spot- I think! You sit right behind where Barry Bonds used to play in the outfield and let me tell you- that section knows how to PARTY! Day games you need sunscreen if the sun is out- it can get pretty hot. The night games can get chilly so bring a heavy blanket or dress in warm layers!

This year the San Francisco Giants are celebrating their 50th Anniversary of playing baseball for the city of San Francisco.

In honor of this Anniversary I've put together a little historical re-cap* of the Giants:

April 15, 1958- First Game Played on West Coast!

Fans packed Seals Stadium from the first day of big league ball on the West Coast. On April 15th, in that historic opener, Ruben Gomez shut out the Los Angeles Dodgers, 8-0

1960:
On April 12th, the Giants first took the field at Candlestick Park. On hand to christen the new stadium were Vice President Richard Nixon, who threw out the first pitch, and Hall of Famer Ty Cobb.

Just one year after opening their new ballpark at Candlestick Point, the Giants played host to the first All-Star Game of 1961.

1970:
Willie Mays hits his 600th career HR. He would end his career with 660 homers, which is good enough for third place on the all-time list.

The San Francisco 49ers move in to share the stadium with the Giants.

1981:
Frank Robinson becomes the first black manager in the National League when he is named to head the Giants.

1999:
The San Francisco Giants play their last game at Candlestick park.

2000:
The Giants christen the spectacular AT&T park (then called Pacific Bell Park)

2007:
Barry Bonds breaks all time Home Run record held by Hank Aaron on August 7th 2007 hitting #756

Managers I remember....Roger Craig 1985-1992
Dusty Baker 1993-2002
Felipe Alou 2003-2006
Bruce Bochy 2007-Present

AT&T Park

"AT&T Park, with its breathtaking views and classic design, received rave reviews throughout the country as one of the smash hits of 2000.

The first privately financed ballpark in Major League Baseball since Dodger Stadium (1962), the Giants' new home features an inspiring nine-foot statue of America's greatest living ballplayer, Willie Mays, at the public entrance; home runs that splash into McCovey Cove (named after another Hall of Fame Willie); an 80-foot Coca-Cola bottle with playground slides and miniature AT&T Park behind left field that has become a magnet for kids of all of ages; and mass public transit that rivals any sports complex in the world." sanfrancisco. giants.mlb.com

Friendly Tip!!

Watch out for "SCALPERS" - people selling tickets out on the street when games are sold out or close to being sold out for a much higher price than ticket value.

BE CAREFUL!!! More often than not the tickets are FAKE. You wont be allowed in and they will be confiscated at the ticket gates.
