MUNI operates over 80 routes throughout San Francisco, with some routes operating 24 hours a day. Most buses stop every two blocks, making the city easily accessible to over 90% of the businesses and residential areas!

Regular Fares


These fares apply ONLY to BUSES, LIGHT RAILS, STREET CARS, METRO & UNDERGROUND.
(Does not apply to cable car fares, or to Monster Park and Special Events service fares.)

Important Note:
Exact change required. No change given. Subway/Metro turnstiles require coins (all denominations of US coins accepted, including dollar coins).

To ride the San Francisco MUNI:

Adult: $2.00

Senior, ages 65+: 75¢ Valid ID required

Youth, ages 5-17: 75¢ Valid ID required

Disabled: 75¢ or monthly sticker affixed to a valid Regional Transit Discount card Valid ID required

Child, ages 4 and under: Free

-- or have ONE of the following --

MUNI monthly pass, Passport, valid token coupon or valid transfer/fare receipt

**The above fares are good for 90 minutes with a transfer. (Meaning you can use as many MUNI lines as you want in that 90 mins with your transfer.)

And always ask for a transfer on all San Francisco MUNI lines (except Cable Cars), even if you do not plan to transfer to another vehicle...because...

ALL MUNI riders MUST have a transfer/fare receipt or other
Proof of Payment.


(Seriously... you could be issued a ticket up to $235 if you dont.)

Buy your CityPass TODAY!The San Francisco CityPass is good for seven consecutive days on MUNI and is also good for admission to several attractions in the city.

It provides a savings over the individual admission prices for the attractions and fare for San Francisco MUNI.

MUNI PASSPORTS



MUNI PassportSan Francisco MUNI Passports are good for unlimited rides on MUNI, including cable cars. 3-day and 7-day Passports are good for three or seven consecutive days.

I HIGHLY recommend getting the passport for those travelers wanting to save money on public transportation!

Passports may be purchased in advance at the following locations: 
  • SFMTA Customer Service Center, 11 South Van Ness Avenue at Market
  • MUNI Ticket Sales Location at Market & Powell Streets
  • MUNI Ticket Sales Location at Hyde & Beach Streets (near Ghirardelli Square)
  • Passports are also sold at the information booths in the baggage claim areas at the San Francisco International Airport. Hours vary by location and are subject to change. As of Dec. 16, 2009, sales hours are as follows:
    * Terminal 1: 8:45 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
    * Terminal 3: 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
    * International Terminal "A" side: 1:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
    * International Terminal "G" side: 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 p.m

Passports cannot be purchased online.
